We stayed with a pair of river angels last night. Jeff & Sandy Bromenschenkel are two River enthusiasts who have hosted paddlers for many years providing a place to stay, a load of clean clothes and a shuttle if needed. They live in a small slice of heaven about 200’ from the river with a wonderful view, wildlife galore and a bunch of maple trees.
They put the coffee on at 7:45am and fired up the griddle at about 8:15am. Eggs, sausage, pancakes and syrup.
The perfect paddlers breakfast!
Jeff collected the sap from his trees and makes his own maple sirup. This might be the best sirup ever made! The pancakes Sandy made, larger than silver dollar, but almost as thin. Pure perfection with just the right amount of little crispy pieces on the sides.
We discussed world travel and activities over breakfast as curling was a hot topic. Sandy is involved with 2 curling clubs and Jeff and Sandy attended the Olympics last year.
Today’s paddle was fantastic compared to yesterday. Warmer weather, glassy waters and Sam showing up at the first dam portage with pizza made it wonderful. I passed what looked like a world war 2 air squadron of fighters and bombers overhead and the ducks and geese took to the skies as I paddled past.
My day ended about 1 mile short as I hit the frozen wall of ice. I poked around the entire edge and finally found a section I could bust into and find a spot to get out and walk to the road for a shuttle from Sam.
We are back at Jeff and Sandies for the night again as my 8 hour paddle was a 20 minutes drive. Tomorrow morning at the put in Sam and I part ways for several weeks until he brings me a food supply many miles down river.
