Kayaking the Mississippi River

Texas Steve on the Go

I’m taking on one of America’s greatest endurance challenges - paddling the entire 2,250-mile length of the Mississippi River in an 18-foot kayak. Solo. Unsupported. Living entirely off what I carry, every mile earned one stroke at a time - nearly 1,000,000 paddle strokes before it’s all said and done. My journey begins at the headwaters in Lake Itasca, Minnesota, where I’ll face early-season cold, 30–40° temperatures, and even the threat of snow. From there, I’ll push south through ever-changing terrain, navigating 29 locks and 15 dam portages, until I reach the Gulf south of New Orleans in the peak of summer - where temperatures can soar past 100°.

This isn’t just an adventure - it’s a mission.

I’m a Texas small business owner, an Army disabled veteran, and I’m using this expedition to raise funds for Tunnel to Towers, supporting fellow disabled veterans along the way. Every mile is self-funded, powered by determination, and backed by the trust of my family and team holding things down at home while I chase something few dare to attempt.
